by Leslie Godwin,
Career & Life-Transition Coach
Author of "From Burned Out to Fired Up"

Here are some of the books I suggested to Debbie:

1. To get some encouragement about living an authentic life:
"Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion," Selected and Edited by Diane K. Osbon

2. It's essential to deepen your internal life and understand the soul/true self. This is the part that guides your intuition and will guide your search. Without that you are just thinking about a career. This addresses some aspects of the developmental stages beyond just being a responsible adult:
"The Five Stages of the Soul: Charting the Spiritual Passages That Shape Our Lives," by Harry R. Moody and David Carroll

3. To see how easy it is to get off track from following your true self, and to get grounded in a philosophy that encompasses spirit and psyche:
Author: A.H. Almaas. Two titles I recommend:

a) "Diamond Heart Book Four: Indestructible Innocence." The back cover says, "We live in a world of mystery, wonder and beauty. But most of us seldom participate in this real world, being focused rather on the part that is mostly strife, suffering, or meaninglessness. This situation is basically due to our not realizing and living our full human potential. This potential can be actualized by the realization and development of the human Essence. The human Essence is the part of us that is innate and real, and can participate in the real world. This series of books is a transcription of talks I have given to inner work groups...as part of the work of these groups. The purpose of the talks is to guide and orient individuals who are engaged in doing the difficult work of essential realization."

b) "Diamond Heart Book One: Elements of the Real in Man"
The first in the Diamond Heart Series. See directly above for info.

4. Meditating can be a simple way to take a step back from your day-to-day frantic life and get a better perspective on reality. It can also lead to a deeper spiritual growth. Meditation is one of the most simple (and challenging) ways to speed up your personal growth. This book has a title I don't like, but it's the best guide for beginners I know of. "Meditation for Dummies" by Stephan Bodian. Sections of the book are: Getting Acquainted, Getting Started, Troubleshooting and Fine-Tuning, Meditation in Action, The Part of Tens (Ten Commonly Asked Questions; Ten Favorite All-Purpose Meditations) and Meditation Resources (Appendix)
